Women are historically underrepresented in many fields, and at the highest levels of education overall. While this is changing, there’s still much to be done to remedy longstanding inequalities. One innovation to alleviate these inequities is scholarships and fellowships that are aimed specifically at women scholars, researchers, and students.

In this resource we’ve compiled 40 of the scholarships and fellowships that are available to women. Many are for particular educational disciplines, or are offered to women in different states, or through colleges and universities. Some are more general, and can be accessed by women all over the country, or world, regardless of what they’re studying.

To qualify for these awards, scholarships, and fellowships you’ll often need to demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, letters of recommendation, personal essays, as well as share a plan for what you’ll do with the funds you receive, and in your career.

So without further ado, let’s get into the 40 scholarships that made the list:

M. Hildred Blewett Fellowship

  • $45000
  • For women wishing to return to physics research careers after an interruption. One year fellowship to be used for dependent care, salary, tuition, equipment, travel, and tuition/fees.

NOAA’s Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program

  • $42000
  • For master’s or doctoral students in oceanography, marine biology, or maritime archaeology

Art Scholarship Competition

  • $20000
  • For women at the Notre Dame of Maryland University studying an art discipline.

Anne Louise Barrett Fellowship

  • $14000
  • For women who are graduates of Wellesley researching or studying music composition, theory, or history.

P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS)

  • $12500
  • Provides scholarships for women from other countries to study in Canada and the United States.

Congressional Fellowship on Women and Public Policy

  • $11500
  • For graduate students or those who have completed a graduate program in the past 18 months. Will work for one academic year as a congressional legislative aide. Must have a proven commitment to equality for women.

Nurses Educational Funds Scholarships

  • $10000
  • For registered nurses who are part of a professional nursing association. Must have a minimum of a 3.6 GPA

Lucy Hanes Chatham Scholarship

  • $10000
  • For a woman attending Salem College. Must have a 3.0 GPA and maintain full-time residency to retain the award.

Executive Women International Scholarships

  • $2,000-10,000
  • For young women who are within the bounds of a participating chapter. Based on academic achievement, work experience, and leadership.

M.A. Cartland Shackford Medical Fellowship

  • $9000
  • Intended for graduates of any American college or university. For women studying dentistry, medicine, or veterinary medicine at a graduate or doctoral level.

Anne Maureen Whitney Barrow Memorial Scholarship

  • $8000
  • Awarded once per renewal cycle (5 years). Any major accepted.

(ISC)² Women in Information Security Scholarship

  • $8000
  • Minimum 3.3 GPA required. For women studying or planning to study a degree with a focus in cybersecurity.

Jane M Klausman Women in Business Scholarship

  • $8000
  • Aimed at women in business majors.

Alberta E. Crowe Star of Tomorrow Scholarship

  • $6000
  • For female bowlers and members of the USBC under 21.

Ada I. Pressman Memorial Scholarship

  • $5200
  • Any major, renewable for 5 years. U.S. citizenship required

Delayed Education Scholarship for Women (DEW)

  • $5000
  • For a mature woman whose education in nuclear science, nuclear engineering, or a nuclear-related field was delayed.

Women in Engineering and Science Scholarship

  • $5000
  • For women attending Stevens College in any discipline.

Newcombe Scholarships for Mature Students

  • $2750
  • For women over 25 who want to complete their undergraduate education.

Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program

  • $2500
  • For any woman who served in the U.S. Army, or her children, to be used for community college, certifications, or college or university.

Renate W. Chasman Scholarship

  • $2500
  • Must be a graduate student doing STEM research at Brookhaven National Laboratory

Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholarship

  • $2500
  • Over 10,000 women in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia receive this scholarship annually. Must be enrolled in a full-time program, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need.

Jeanne Harris Chrysalis Scholarship

  • $2000
  • For a woman with at least a year interruption in their geoscience education.

Admiral Grace Murray Hopper Scholarship

  • $1700
  • Preference given to computer related engineering majors.

Alice May Anderson Scholarship Fund

  • $1200
  • U.S. citizenship required. Given to women attending a university or college in California. All engineering majors considered.

Sarah Bradley Tyson Memorial Fellowship

  • $1000
  • Need excellentc credentials and to be studying agriculture or horticulture. Intense application process required.

BWIS Gertrude S. Goldhaber Prize

  • $1000
  • Must be a graduate student at State University of New York at Stony Brook and/or performing their thesis research at Brookhaven National Laboratory and be admitted as a doctoral candidate.

1000 Dreams Scholarship Fund

  • $1000
  • One time award for women attending high school, or two or four-year colleges or universtiies.

Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship

  • $1000
  • In addition to the money, recipients are given a certification. For women in statistics working towards a Master’s or Ph.D.

Influenster 2020 Women in STEM Scholarship

  • $1000
  • For women pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a technical field.

American Association of University Women (AAUW)

  • Various Amounts
  • AAUW offers a wide range of scholarships for women throughout the country.

AAUW American Fellowships

  • Various Amounts
  • AAUW also offers fellowships (short and long term) for women. These include opportunites for publishing, research, and dissertation work.

Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting

  • Various Amounts
  • Many awards for women working and studying accounting at all levels of higher education. You may apply for multiple scholarships depending on your qualifications.

  • Dozens of women are awarded several different scholarships through this fund.

Emerge Scholarships

  • Scholarships for low income women who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents (and in one case Georgia residents). Must be pursuing a degree at accredited or pre-approved schools. Chosen based on applicant goals, plans for reaching goals, and intention to give back to their communities.

GoGirl! Grants

  • Various Amounts
  • Have supplied 147 local women with more than $500,000 in grants. Must be 25 or older, enrolled in at least two classes, working towards an undergraduate degree or certification, and have a specific plan for how an educational pathway will lead to a career.

Women Techmakers Scholars Program

  • Google offers several scholarships throughout the world for women working in computer science, gaming, and other aspects of technology. Award includes scholarships, retreat, and becoming part of a community.

The School Superintendents Association

  • Several scholarships for school administrators.

AWAF Scholarships
