25. Southern Illinois University

Founded in 1869 as the state’s second teachers college – with a dozen academic departments and an inaugural class of 143 – Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale is the flagship campus of the Southern Illinois University System. It is a strong, diverse, student-centered research-intensive and comprehensive university that recently earned the prestigious 2015 community engagement classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. SIU Carbondale is one of the rare universities to hold accounting accreditation with AACSB. Less than 200 schools worldwide have this specialized accreditation from the most prestigious business accreditation agency.

Their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Accounting program is designed for those students who wish to complete the final two years of undergraduate accounting degree coursework 100 percent online through the SIU College of Business. The program incorporates approximately 60 credit hours of coursework (20 courses).  Each course runs eight weeks so you can focus on two classes at a time while still completing four courses each semester. The program typically takes about six semesters of study over a 24-month time span to complete.  But it is possible to finish in a minimum of 18 months. The courses are paired and identified as either an “A” course or a “B” course.  The “A” courses meet the first eight weeks of the semester; the “B” courses meet the second eight weeks of the semester. SIU recommends that a full time student would be advised to take both the “A” course and the “B” course.
